Chipmakers slide as AMD, NVDA lead losses on Sept. 14

AMD and NVDA led watchlist declines while Alphabet and Meta posted the session's largest gains; other names were mixed.

Monday’s session split along sector lines. Semiconductor names Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA) posted the watchlist’s steepest declines, while internet and social-media names Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL) and Meta Platforms, Inc. (META) recorded the largest gains. Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) also advanced.

Elsewhere the picture was more mixed. Tesla, Inc. (TSLA), JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM), Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) and SpaceX (SPCX) each closed lower, while Visa Inc. (V) and UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (UNH) edged higher. Apple Inc. (AAPL) was little changed, closing just above the prior session’s level.

Across the watchlist, moves were confined to a range of roughly 4% on either side, with no stock posting a double-digit percentage change.

Notable movers

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) led watchlist decliners, falling from 516.13 to 493.41.

NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA) also declined, closing at 210.96 versus the prior close of 218.29.

Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL) posted the largest gain on the watchlist, rising from 338.50 to 349.39.

Meta Platforms, Inc. (META) advanced as well, closing at 665.60 after a prior close of 648.03.
