Methodology
Transparency matters, so here is exactly how every TickerBrief brief is produced.
Data
After each US market close, we retrieve official daily quote data (closing price, previous close, change, and percent change) for every stock on our watchlist fromFinnhub, a market data provider. The price table in every brief is rendered directly from this data.
Stock pages
Daily stock briefs cover companies that are prominent in that day's market news. Every point reflects published reporting, and each page lists the publications it draws on; the price figures shown on the page come directly from the market data provider, never from the write-up itself. A ticker the data provider cannot verify is never published.
Earnings summaries
Earnings figures (reported and expected EPS and revenue) come directly from the market data provider's earnings calendar and are rendered in the results table as received. The fundamentals table (margins, free cash flow, and related measures) likewise comes directly from the provider's financial metrics, with each value labeled by the period it covers. The accompanying summary is based on the company's published earnings materials and reputable coverage of them.
Lists and screens
The AI Stocks page lists AI-focused companies that are prominent in the day's market coverage; the prices shown come directly from the market data provider, and a ticker the provider cannot verify is never listed. The Top Picks page is an objective screen with fixed, published criteria (free cash flow and distance from the 52-week high) computed entirely from the provider's data. Neither page is a recommendation to buy or sell anything.
Financial history
Each covered company's financial history page shows figures taken directly from the company's filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission — quarterly and annual revenue, profit, margins, and free cash flow. Where a fiscal fourth quarter is not filed as a separate period, it is computed arithmetically from the annual filing minus the three reported quarters and marked as such. These pages update only when a company files new financial data.
Product updates
Product update pages track changes to a covered company's products — prices, configurations, lease and financing offers, and lineup changes. Where possible, changes are detected by comparing the company's own product pages — retrieved directly or via the Internet Archive's public captures — against the previously archived version, so every item reflects an observed change on the official page; otherwise items come from published reporting. Each page lists its sources — the official pages or the publications. On days with nothing new, no update is published.
Writing
The narrative portion of each brief is written from the day's verified price figures and nothing else — no invented numbers, no predictions, and no buy/sell opinions. Before publication, every figure mentioned in the narrative is checked against the source data.
Publication
Briefs are published on trading days shortly after market close. On market holidays no brief is published. Every published brief is archived permanently and is never silently edited; corrections, if needed, are noted in the article.
