SpaceX climbs 4.5% as Meta, Microsoft lead broad tech pullback

SpaceX (SPCX) rose 4.5% on Aug. 17 while Meta (META) and Microsoft (MSFT) each fell more than 3%, leading declines across most of the watchlist.

Monday’s session was broadly negative for the watchlist, with SpaceX (SPCX) standing out as the lone significant gainer, closing at $146.23, up 4.5% from its prior close of $140.00. The rest of the group skewed lower, led by declines in Meta Platforms (META) and Microsoft (MSFT), both of which fell more than 3%.

Mega-cap technology names were mixed to lower. Alongside Meta and Microsoft’s steeper drops, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) declined 1.6% to $506.00, while Alphabet (GOOGL) and NVIDIA (NVDA) each slipped about 0.5% or less. Apple (AAPL) was nearly flat, down 0.1% to $305.59. Tesla (TSLA) eased 0.9% to $339.30.

Financials and healthcare also finished in the red. Visa (V) and JPMorgan Chase (JPM) each declined roughly 1.5% and 0.5%, respectively, while UnitedHealth Group (UNH) fell 1.5% to $395.62. Amazon.com (AMZN) rounded out the decliners, down 0.5% to $261.31.

SpaceX (SPCX) shares rose 4.5% to close at $146.23, the largest move on the watchlist, up from a prior close of $140.00.

Meta Platforms (META) fell 3.5% to $568.97, its steepest decline among the group, down $20.88 from the prior close.

Microsoft (MSFT) dropped 3% to $480.35, down $15.05 from its previous close of $495.40.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) declined 1.6% to $506.00, extending the day’s weakness among chipmakers.
