- Shares declined after Bloomberg reported SpaceX is negotiating with major tower companies for access to at least 80,000 US cell sites to build a nationwide wireless carrier that would compete with AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile.
- The report follows SpaceX’s purchase of an 800 MHz low-band spectrum portfolio from Grain Management, a deal reported to be valued near $8 billion and still subject to FCC approval.
- AT&T and Verizon had already posted some of their steepest single-day declines in more than two decades when the spectrum deal was first reported earlier in October.
- Some analysts said they see limited near-term competitive risk, citing Starlink’s technical constraints and slow mobile-subscriber growth to date.
